Data Center Subfloor Cleaning
Overview
Subfloors are often the forgotten part of a data center when it comes to cleaning. While subfloors do collect dust and particulates over time, they often start out as a graveyard for extra wires and packaging that is discarded during installation. Chances are, this area of your subfloor hasn’t been cleaned before. We recommend cleaning the subfloor at least annually as particulates and dust settle at the lowest points of your building and given all the holes in the subfloor, the crawl space gets dirty throughout the year.
What the Subfloor Cleaning Process Looks Like
Our team will enter your crawl space and perform an inspection. We will identify if there are any abandoned live wires and cur the power to those prior to working in the space. After securing the area, our team will remove any hazards (left behind materials including wires, etc.) and then proceed with cleaning the subfloor with antistatic methods and green cleaning materials. The safety of our team and your equipment is our top priority so we use chemicals that are safe for contained spaces that cannot be ventilated. Typically, we do not need to terminate power to the computer room above the subfloor, so operations can continue as scheduled most of the time. Special circumstances where power would need to be terminated include, a suspect wire or another electrical danger.
How Often Subfloor Cleaning Should Be Performed
Subfloor cleaning should be performed on an annual basis as particulates and dust settle into it over time. Anytime you have a top-down cleaning performed, you should consider your subfloor as the very bottom of that cleaning procedure. Subfloor cleaning should also be performed during a move-in /move-out, during the pre-operational cleaning, and after a server restacking clean has been performed. It is also good to consider a subfloor cleaning, or at the very least an inspection, any time you have your full HVAC system cleaned, especially the HVAC system that services the subfloor.
