Part-time Accountant – Des Moines, IA

Clear Air Enviro-Services (CAES) is an environmental services company committed to excellence in compliance, safety, and financial integrity. We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Accountant – Part-Time to manage our financial operations, reporting, and compliance processes for 10–15 hours per week.
Primary Purpose and Function: The Accountant executes weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual bookkeeping tasks and financial reporting for CAES. This includes maintaining accurate QuickBooks Online (QBO) records, managing cash flow, and supporting tax and payroll functions. Work is performed primarily on-site at our Des Moines, IA headquarters, with some remote flexibility.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and reconcile bank, credit card, petty cash, and investment accounts in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
- Oversee A/R and A/P processes: enter customer payments, vendor bills, and process outgoing payments.
- Track and project cash flow; send weekly balance updates and ensure payroll and vendor obligations are met.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, sales tax filings, and year-end 1099s.
- Enter payroll journal entries and record commissions, bonuses, and investment contributions.
- Maintain accurate records, organize financial files, and review undocumented expenses for proper coding.
- Collaborate with department managers on financial reports and invoice tracking.
- Support ongoing improvements to financial workflows and participate in special finance-related projects as needed.
- Monitor accounting inbox and respond to inquiries or requests in a timely, professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Degree or certification in Accounting preferred; equivalent experience accepted.
- Strong QuickBooks Online proficiency, especially in maintaining the Chart of Accounts and class/project coding.
- Working knowledge of GAAP principles and nonprofit accounting preferred.
- Advanced Excel and familiarity with Word and other office software.
- Proven accuracy in financial reporting and independent task management.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to manage last-minute requests and shifting priorities.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform general office tasks.
